Advancing Justice

Putting Our Values into Action

At the First Unitarian Society of Westchester, we care for one another so we can care for the world.
Our faith calls us to heal, to act, and to bring love where it’s needed most.
Justice isn’t charity — it’s changing the systems that cause harm.
Together, we join the Unitarian Universalist movement to build a world rooted in hope, love, and justice.

We participate in Side with Love and other national campaigns in solidarity with other UUs around the nation and the planet.

Midnight Run
Coordinates over 1,000 relief missions per year, in which volunteers from churches, synagogues, schools, and other civic groups distribute food, clothing, blankets, and personal care items to the homeless poor on the streets of New York City. The late-night relief efforts create a forum for trust, sharing, understanding, and affection.

Bread for the People
Volunteers deliver Stop & Shop “day old bread” and other baked products, making them available to community members in need! It also cuts down on waste before these items become unusable.

Food Pantry
On any Wednesday morning, clients of the Dobbs Ferry Food Pantry step into a world that we’ve created together—volunteers helping clients, folks dropping off donations, and people in need of food looking out for each other.

Hearts and Homes for Refugees
This nonprofit organization is dedicated to welcoming, protecting, and advocating for refugees in our communities and abroad. Hearts & Homes is a growing network of volunteers, families, neighbors, community organizations, and people of goodwill from all faiths and civic groups.

Neighbors Link
Their mission is to strengthen the whole community through the healthy integration of immigrants. This is achieved by filling a service gap for new immigrant families, offering education and empowerment programs, involving longer-term residents in volunteer opportunities, and creating substantive partnerships with other local organizations.

Immigration Justice Clinic at Pace Law School
Serves indigent people living, working, or detained in the Hudson Valley or in the five boroughs. Free advice and representation are offered to eligible immigrants fighting their removal from the United States and/or seeking to regularize their legal status through family ties, employment, asylum, or according to specific federal categories such as Violence Against Women, Special Immigrant Juveniles, Diversity Visa, Anti-Trafficking, Temporary Protected Status, the U Visa, or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.
