The UU Climate Justice Revival is a collaboration among a variety of UU justice groups.
Our congregation is joining UUs across the land to revive our commitment to climate justice. The expectation is that the focused weekend of activities will enable all of us to learn new frameworks at the intersection of climate and justice and have the chance to weave together the threads that have always linked our deepest commitments.
The targeted weekend is September 28-29, 2024. Many congregations are, of course, doing their own thing in their own timeframe. Rev. Arlin Roy's sermon, "Anxious About the Climate Crisis Yet?" and the Sunday service on the 29th will be designated for this program. In addition, The First Unitarian Society of Westchester is offering a very special "Soup Sunday" on October 6th at South Church.
It's been 53 years since France Moore Lappé published "Diet for a Small Planet." Her plant centered approach to healthier eating and healthier planet has made slow but steady progress. It's been 21 years since her daughter Anna Lappé collaborated with her in writing "Hope's Edge", a collection of recipes from around the world, promoting plant centered diets in many cultures. Most of us have adapted our diets from the "meat and potatoes" of the 1950s. We each have a wealth of favorite recipes and "go-to" menus that are healthy, tasty and plant based.
We've designated "Soup Sunday" on October 6th to share and celebrate, and to take a few more leaps forward towards better health for us and our planet with our sharing. Sign up to contribute a dish. Bring your recipes, menus, and food shopping hints. (Recipes are welcome even if you can't bring a dish.) On a recent Sunday we learned of all the items that our ancestral families preserved by pickling. Secret recipes to share, anyone?
To participate in the October 6th Soup Sunday, please send an email to Susan Greenberg and let her know what you plan to bring, or share a recipe that she can add to our FUSW Recipe Archive.
