Diane Guernsey has posted an opening for a 1/2 time interim minister in the UUA job postings. According to the UUA, this is effectively a contract ministry.
Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Poughkeepsie has approached FUSW to join with them in a "Yoked Ministry" (document) . The minister would be a full-time minister who would split their duties between Poughkeepsie and FUSW. They would be half-time in the pulpit of each congregation. (Poughkeepsie already has a pastoral minister.) Poughkeepsie would handle the payroll, and FUSW would pay 40% of the cost. The Board and the Committee are following up on this.
The Committee asks the Board to establish as soon as possible a ministerial search committee, consisting of 3--5 members to be appointed at the May 19 Town Hall meeting, or, if that is too soon, then at the June 2 Annual Meeting.
The Committee also considered posting the job opening for minister in places other than the UUA. Lenore Lupie will create a short proposed job description for posting and circulate it among the members of the Committee. Diane Guernsey will contact the Board to get approval to circulate the posting at a few seminaries.
The Committee discussed the idea of "Peace Circles," as described in the document "Restorative Practices for Faith Communities" One possibility would be to contact Evin Carvill-Ziemar about conducting another workshop or training facilitators [from FUSW]. The Committee also suggested doing a trial "Peace Circle" session or something similar as a summer service, possibly on the topic of how FUSW should handle coffee hour refreshments.
Diane Guernsey anticipates that the May 19 Town Hall meeting will be jointly conducted by Diane and either Greg Shunick or Art Lowenstein. The agenda is expected to be: * Announcement of the Proposed bylaw change. (Details distributed at the May 5 service.) * The proposed 2019-2020 FUSW budget. * Report on the progress of the ministerial search * Report on the Yoked Congregations proposal. * Report on the proposal to create a search committee. * The status of planning for Religious Education. * The ideas in the "Restorative Practices" document. * A reminder of the opportunities for committee service. * A reminder that summer service slots need to be filled.
The next meeting of the Committee will be on May 26, 2019 at 12:00 noon.
The meeting ended at 2:00 p.m.
