Sharing the Spirit
At the First Unitarian Society of Westchester (FUSW), we've created a welcoming community where people feel safe to be themselves, free to pursue their spiritual search, and free to share in our caring community. Our Sunday worship services are the heartbeat of our community. There are many ways to get what we each need spiritually. In addition to Sunday services, we have a choir and a good number of musical avenues because many of us experience music as a spiritual path. We also work for social justice, join intellectual discussion or book groups, share in support groups, teach children and care for one another, all as ways to deepen our spritual lives.
Sunday Services
Whether you want to be a part of a community or just want quiet moments to look within yourself, services at FUSW can provide you with thought-provoking sermons, a communal sharing of many different individual perspectives, music, humor, and a community of warm and caring adults, youth, and children. FUSW is served by a minister who promotes the inherent worth and dignity of every person, the free and responsible search for truth, loving committment to Earth and the exploration of both ancient and contemporary wisdom.
Lay-Led Services
An enduring and cherished tradition at FUSW, lay-led services offer a unique opportunity to explore your own ideas and share them with the congregation. Each year our lay-led services are created, developed and presented by Program Groups comprised of FUSW members and friends. Each group starts the process with a pot-luck dinner to get acquainted, select a theme, and determine who will take on the various responsibilities for putting on the service. These collaborations result in dynamic and creative services that not only cover topics of interest to the group but inspire our congregation as we strengthen our feeling of community through service to each other. Whether you're a newcomer or a longtime member, Program Groups are an excellent way to become involved in our activities and to meet new people.
Summer Services
Summer Services are a rich tradition at FUSW. Like Program Groups, Summer Services are lay-led, but are usually presented by individuals or smaller groups of two or three people.
